One look is all it takes

ServSafe is a suite of training and certification programs offered by the National Restaurant Association. Their help center is a one-stop shop for all program support: from ordering courses, to access and login for students, to resources for instructors regarding enrollment and exams. It makes a strong case for a tightly packed knowledge base, with the entire help center visible without scrolling on most screens.

This requires some thoughtful information architecture choices. The only elements of the homepage are search and the six tiles with top-level content categories. Everything has been slimmed down, so there are no frills, FAQs, or contact forms. But it works because you only need one look to orient yourself in the content. Without scrolling, you open the ServSafe knowledge base and instantly know where to go.

Every piece of content is titled with a question, making it all specific and further helping with the navigation. The guides themselves are all about brevity and precision, each immediately addressing the question posed in the title. Content requiring more detailed instructions is broken into discrete scrollable steps.

All information is served in small bits with exceptional precision. Not a word or a pixel is wasted in the ServSafe help center.

ServSafe uses a Stonly knowledge base.
