Node alias ⚡️

While waiting for your Sats to confirm on the Blockchain, you may want to consider adding an alias for your node. For example, mine used in this walkthrough is "Rich Kids on LND" and can be easily identified on explorers, such as 1ml.com. By default, your alias is a string of numbers.

There are many reasons not to create an alias, most obviously, extreme privacy. Should you decide to proceed with a custom alias (and are using Mac OS), continue reading, otherwise, keep on movin', pal!

If you've never used Terminal before, proceed with caution.. But it's no biggie!

Open Terminal on your Mac (Type "Terminal" in Spotlight)
Type the following command in Terminal: ssh -t umbrel@umbrel.local
Enter Umbrel password, when prompted
When you see umbrel@umbrel:~$, type the following command: sudo nano umbrel/lnd/lnd.conf

Type Umbrel password again, when prompted
Use the down arrows on your keyboard, in order to get to the bottom of the first paragraph. You are creating a new line: alias=NAME OF YOUR NODE HERE
Don't mess with anything else in here right now and make sure to maintain a line between the first and second paragraph [Bitcoind]
Type ^X (Hold control, then X) to save modified buffer.
Type Y when prompted
Hit ENTER to write file.
You should now be back at the umbrel@umbrel:~$ prompt. Success!
Exit Terminal (Close/Terminate) and return to Umbrel Dashboard
Go to Settings > Restart your Umbrel
Once restart is complete, return to RTL for the next step.
