How does knowledge base search work?

Keyword search

Knowledge base search uses a keyword-based algorithm with tolerance for small difference between the query and result. For example, a query customize will return results for both customize and customise.

Search results are split into three categories and ranked separately for each: folders, guides, and steps.

We rank them based on these criteria, in order of importance:

  1. Tags

  2. Guide title

  3. Step title

  4. Folder title (folder results only)

  5. Folder description (folder results only)

  6. Step content

  7. Guide description (folder and guide results only)

Search customization

In the following steps we cover options for customizing knowledge base search: display settings, filters, and enhancing results with AI.

Hybrid search

Per request, we can enable a hybrid search algorithm for your knowledge base.

It combines keyword search with a semantic search approach to account for typos, query variations (e.g. customize returning results for custom and customizability as well), and synonyms.

If you'd like to use hybrid search, please get in touch through the form below.
