Get your stud finder.

Run the stud finder along the wall until you locate the studs you want to mount to. Your stud finder will light up or make a noise when it detects a stud.
You can also knock along the wall to listen for a change in material behind the drywall. When the knocking changes from a hollow to a solid sound, you may have found the stud.
To confirm that a stud is present, consider driving a small finish nail into the stud mark.
You may need to locate anywhere from two to three studs, depending on the mount.
