Before applying lacquer, be sure to read the instructions on the lacquer you purchased.

If using a brush:

Apply thin coats in quick, long strokes (don’t drag the brush back and forth).
Work quickly as lacquer dries fast and don't overwork it, which could leave bubbles and drips.
Let one coat dry before applying the other.

If spraying:

Spray-on lacquer comes in a ready-to-use spray can and in a product you can add to a sprayer.

Keep a consistent distance between the nozzle and the furniture piece - between 8 and 12 inches is ideal - and spray in sweeping motions.
For the smoothest finish, begin pressing on the nozzle just before you reach the wood and, as you’re moving back and forth over the area, overlap each row a little so there aren’t any gaps.
Because the product dries so quickly, make sure to cover the whole surface area within a few minutes so it doesn’t start to dry as you’re applying the product.
Follow the drying time instructions on the product and allow to dry
Lightly sand the piece down with with a high grit sandpaper (like a 320 grit) to smooth out the finish
Then wipe the wood down with a cloth to remove any particles left behind that might ruin the next coat.
Apply more coats as advised by the manufacturer.
