Personalized content

You can display different step content to different people based on who they are. There are two main ways to do that:

  • Guide variables that can be placed inside step text or inserted into URLs to create dynamic links.

  • Conditional sections that display only if the conditions are met.

You can use these for something as simple as greeting a website visitor by name, or to provide more practical information, like outstanding balance from their last invoice or information specific to their country.

Data for dynamic content

For variables and conditional sections to work, you need to provide data to them. There are several types of data, defined by source:

  • Locally transmitted. Stored temporarily in the visitor's browser. Local data can be used in the widget, as well as in a knowledge base, standalone guides, and guides embedded on a page with iframes.

  • Stored. User properties saved in Stonly. Only available when displaying content in a widget on your website.

  • Server call variables. Received from a server response inside an automation step.
